- Seed Size: Medium
- Color: Red
- Maturity Duration: 160-180 days
BDN-711 is a premium pigeon pea cultivar characterized by vigorous growth, maturing in 160–180 days with plant heights of 110–130 cm and well-distributed branching. On-farm trials have demonstrated yields of 1.6–2.0 t/ha under recommended agronomic regimes, including balanced fertilization and timely irrigation. The variety exhibits strong tolerance to drought stress and heat, as well as high resistance to fusarium wilt, sterility mosaic virus, and pod borer pests, reducing the need for frequent pesticide applications. Seeds are bright red, medium-sized, and maintain integrity during cooking—displaying rapid water uptake, minimal splitting, and an appealing texture. BDN-711 performs best on well-drained loamy soils (pH 6.0–7.5) and integrates seamlessly into crop rotations or intercropping systems with cereals and oilseeds, enhancing overall farm productivity and soil health.
